Henry Hallowell Farquhar papers, 1911-1926.

Collection consists of correspondence, research, writing, and teaching materials of Henry H. Farquhar, professor of Factory Management. Correspondence reflects Farquhar's interest of Frederick Taylor's scientific management theory, opinion on how industrial management should be taught, and resignation from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. Writings include typescripts and reprints of articles written by Farquhar concerning factory efficiency and reviews of his book, Factory Storekeeping: The Control and Storage of Materials (1922). The collection also includes a report written by Farquhar for the Boston Chamber of Commerce about the creation of a master plan for industrial development in Boston.

Henry Hallowell Farquhar received his MBA from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration in 1916. Prior to his arrival in Boston he was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture from 1909-1914. He was hired as Instructor in Factory Management in 1916 and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1920. In 1925 he became the comptroller for A.L. Smith Iron Works in Chelsea, Massachusetts.
